New lunch restaurant coming to downtown Benton Harbor

BENTON HARBOR, Mich.—A new lunch restaurant will soon open in downtown Benton Harbor.

Happy Poochie Eatery, which will specialize in artisan sandwiches and salads with seasonal soups, is set to open its doors in late spring or early summer, the owners Lisa and Richard Gresens said in a press release on Monday.

The new restaurant on W. Main Street will set up shop in the locally-famous “food sign building.”

Lisa has been in the food and restaurant business for over 30 years. Her husband, Richard, is a product designer originally from southwest Michigan.

“We are excited to be an integral part of the community, a catalyst for growth downtown, and another notable food destination in Benton Harbor,” Richard said in the press release.

As for the name of the new eatery, Lisa said its a nod to their grandson.

"Our grandson calls me Poochie and the name has a history with our family. On the other hand, I love making food that makes people happy, hence the name," Lisa said.
