ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office has reported a new phone scam in which scammers will appear on people’s caller ID under the sheriff office’s name and number to request payment from recipients.
Police say the scammers will give a number of reasons for people to believe that they owe money to the sheriff’s office in the form of gift cards.
Officials want everyone to know that police will never contact you in this fashion and will never ask for gift card information.
If you have any information on scammers using this method, call the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office at 574-891-2100.
