New restaurants and hotels adding to South Bend's local economy

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Another new hotel is coming to St. Joseph County. That makes it the 6th hotel in the area under construction or in its planning phases. The question remains, once more people come to stay, what is there for them to do?

On East Ireland Road, by the former Hibachi Restaurant and Grill, there is an empty lot that will soon be a 81 room Holiday Inn Express.

Although a few businesses around the city have more or closed its doors, one local restaurant is offering more choices to these potential visitors.

The Tapastrie on Colfax will be going into the old “Vine” location on Colfax. It’s owned by the same folks who own Fiddler’s Hearth and will be managed by Peggy Swihart.

Swihart says she’s excited for new hotels to come to South Bend. “We’ll offer them a new place to dine,” says Swihart.

As far as construction for the Holiday Inn Express, a start date has not been set yet.
