New technology brings Apollo 11 to life

The Apollo 11 mission happened at a time when television was still relatively new technology, but it enabled millions of viewers to witness history. Now, 50 years later, technology brings the Apollo 11 mission to life in real time so anyone with a computer can experience history.

On the Apollo 11 In Real Time website, creator Ben Feist gives visitors a chance to experience the mission from 20 hours before launch to after the crew is recovered after landing.

There are 11,000 hours of Mission Control audio, 2,000 photographs, 240 hours of space to ground audio and information on the surface samples collected by Armstrong and Aldrin.
