NAPPANEE, Ind.— A unique toy store is opening in early August in Coppes Commons.

Thingamabaubles will celebrate its grand opening on August 14 at 401 E. Market Street with an event geared towards families packed with activities and toy demonstrations.

Scott Boehner co-owns the shop with his wife, Alysia. The couple is opening the shop with a mission to bring creative, unique toys you can’t find in big box stores to the Elkhart and Kosciusko county area.

The roughly 1,800 square foot store will be full of toys, including dolls, playsets, puzzles, crafts and interactive toys, for all ages, with a focus on activities for infants to seven-year-olds.

One of Boehner’s favorite toys on the shelves is a Tonies interactive music box.

Rotating toy demonstrations will allow kids to test out potential purchases and, as Boehner put it, just have some fun.

A play marketplace will be stocked with pretend food, a cash register, kitchen and picnic tables for kids to enjoy in store.

“I want to encourage parents to come to the shopping center with their kids, grab a coffee or ice cream, come in and have fun as a family,” Boehner said.

Boehner noted there was a strong sense of shopping local that was born out of the pandemic in the Nappanee area.

“We’ve been really encouraged by the shop local mentality here,” Boehner said.

Once open, the store’s hours of operation will be Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
