New U-Haul location planned for Douglas Road to serve Notre Dame students

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- The U-Haul company, best known for its white and orange box trucks that are available for rent, is purchasing over 11 acres at 16963 Douglas Road where a new retail, moving, and self-storage facility is being planned.

The new location, officially called the U-Haul Moving and Storage of University Park, is scheduled to be done by summer 2026 after the property was officially acquired on May 15.

The facility will be a little over a mile from the University of Notre Dame, with hopes of getting the business of students who are constantly moving in and out each fall and spring.

“We are excited to make trusted U-Haul products and services even more convenient for Mishawaka residents and the wonderful people associated with the University of Notre Dame,” said U-Haul Company of Northern Indiana and South Cook County President Ray Powell. “We look forward to being a good neighbor by building a beautiful facility, creating jobs and meeting a basic need for this growing community.”

Powell says he plans to hire up to 17 people to staff the new store once it's open.

"U-Haul will look to hire locally to promote job growth in the Mishawaka community," Powell said. "U-Haul, honored as a Best for Vets employer by The Military Times, actively recruits veterans and gives them preference in the hiring process."

On top of traditional truck and trailer rentals, the new location will feature a three-story building with 967 indoor, climate-controlled self-storage rooms with security features and portable moving containers.

This will be the fourth U-Haul location in Mishawaka.
