One year later, many still reliving Colon tornado
MISHAWAKA, Ind. - A new VA clinic opened in Mishawaka Friday.
It offers a number of new services to Michiana veterans, and replaces the old center in South Bend.
The $38 million project took two years to build at 90,000 square feet.
Many services provided in the new facility were previously only available in Fort Wayne.
"We've tried to make it a one-stop shop where they can get everything they need right here at home," Sen. Joe Donnelly said of the facility.
Local veterans say the services provided, including mental health, audiology and cardiology, are things they used to drive hours for.
"A lot of guys have to drive to Anderson or Fort Wayne two or three times a week for treatment, and this is in town ,you know, it’s a lot better," Vietnam War Veteran Christian Luciani said.
Several services are already available at the location, with more to come in October.
