New York man sentenced to 20 years for June 2022 Toll Road crash

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - A New York man, 28-year-old Chasen Thompson, has been sentenced to 20 years for a June 2022 Toll Road crash that killed two people and injured five others. 

The crash occurred on June 1, 2022, in St. Joseph County.

Ten years will be served in the Indiana Department of Corrections and the remaining ten will be served through home detention and various levels of probation. 

His license will also be suspended for 10 years, and he will also have to serve 250 hours of community service while on probation. 

Thompson will also be responsible for enrolling in any substance treatment programs suggested to him by a licensed professional during his probationary period. 

Thompson was arrested after crashing into several vehicles who were slowing down for construction near mile-marker 71 of the Toll Road, according to police. The crash resulted in the deaths of 45-year-old Eric Klein of Anna, Ohio, and 82-year-old Jacqueline Luczak of Cicero, Illinois.
