Silver Beach drowning victim identified by police

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. – Dakota Yergeau, a 27-year-old St. Joseph, Mich. resident, has been identified as the victim involved in a drowning accident at Silver Beach on March 28, according to the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety.

Officers were dispatched to the South Pier at Silver Beach for a water rescue in Lake Michigan on March 28 around 5:30 p.m.

Two men from St. Joseph, Mich. were on the pier when a large wave swept one into the lake, according to officers.

Rescue efforts were unsuccessful and attempts are being made to recover the body.
