South Shore Line cancelling trains, bussing passengers between South Bend Airport, Carroll Ave.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Passengers traveling on the South Shore Line between the South Bend International Airport and Carroll Ave. in Michigan City will have to take a bus between the two stations for at least tonight and tomorrow, according to a release from the South Shore Line.
A slow-moving South Shore freight train derailed adjacent to the South Shore Line tracks near the Carroll Ave. station in Michigan City, causing passenger trains to be delayed and/or cancelled.
"As crews work to resolve the situation, South Shore Line trains will be unable to operate east of Carroll Ave. until power has been restored and the scene cleared," the release states.
Bussing due to the derailment went into effect with Eastbound Train 9 and will continue until further notice. For Wednesday, Dec. 6, Eastbound Train 401 has already been cancelled.
There will be no service to/from Hudson Lake while busing is in effect.
The additional use of busses for South Shore Line passengers comes on top of the ongoing bussing between Dune Park and Gary Metro Center stations that dates back almost two years.
