Niles advises residents on theft prevention ahead of National Safety Month in June

NILES, Mich. - The City of Niles is reminding residents to lock their car doors to prevent potential thefts ahead of National Safety Month next month.

The City said locking your car door is the easiest way to limit theft opportunities and ensure the safety of yourself, your family, and the things you own.

The City is also warning that though a change in the weather usually causes an uptick in theft, thieves are simply looking for easy ways to get to your property.

“We have yet to see anyone breaking windows to gain entry, they are looking for easy access,” said Public Safety Director Jim Millin.

Citizens are also advised to lock their garage doors.
