Niles Community School District feeds students during summer break

NILES, Mich. – Niles Community School District is offering programs to make sure children and teens stay well-fed and well-read this summer.

Starting tomorrow, and occurring every Tuesday until August 17, the district will host its Summer Meal Distribution Program.

One distribution location is Niles High School on Eagle Street. This site will operate between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. every Tuesday.

The second location will be Ballard Elementary School on East Chicago Road. It will operate between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. every Tuesday.

This program operates as a curbside pick-up service.

Each meal kit is free, and will include seven breakfasts and seven lunches for every child in the household.

Meal kits are available for all children under 18, regardless of if they are Niles Community School students.

During three of the Summer Meal Distribution pick up days, Pop-Up Drive-Up Libraries will be hosted. The libraries will occur on June 29, July 13, and July 17 at both the high school and the elementary school.

An additional Pop-Up Drive-Up Library will occur Thursday, August 12 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. It will be hosted at Niles Viking Stadium on Eagle Street.
