No injuries reported in Elkhart commercial fire
ELKHART, Ind. – The Elkhart Fire Department extinguished a commercial structure fire at a RV Manufacturing plant on C.R. 1 Wednesday afternoon.
The Fire Department was dispatched to the area for reports of a possible fire.
As units were traveling to the scene, they saw a large plume of heavy black smoke in the sky.
The EFD Rescue 4 arrived on scene first and reported black smoke and a heavy active fire coming from unknown equipment on the south side near the building. Wind had aided in spreading the fire to the building, police said.
The fire breached the exterior wall and into the building as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.
The building’s fire suppression system activated and helped keep the fire contained to a small area inside the building.
The fire was extinguished after about 20 minutes of work to put it out.
No civilians or firefighters were injured in the incident.
