Noche with La Casa fundraiser kicks off in new venue
South Bend’s La Casa de Amistad kicked off their 4th annual fundraising gala, Noche with La Casa, at a brand new spot inside the University of Notre Dame Tuesday evening. The goal for the Latino community center was to raise around $100,000 in funds to help with program activities.
“La Casa has been busier than ever trying to respond to all the changes with immigration, travel issues, you know all different types of challenges that have been faced this year, and so this has been probably our busiest year ever. So this is where we need as much support as possible to help meet the community need,” said Sam Centellas, Executive Director of La Casa de Amistad.
That event was began at 5:30 p.m. and was held at the brand new Dahnke Hall inside the Duncan Student Center overlooking the stadium.
La Casa has been a Latino community center on the west side of South Bend since 1973 and for the fourth year in a row, they’re using the annual event to help raise funds for not only their programs, but all those involved. A silent auction was held along with donations collections from local vendors and ‘Our Suenos’, or ‘Our Dreams’, which is a separate fundraiser held to help families or clients pay for things like fees or to simply help them reach their dreams.
After more than 4 decades in South Bend, Sam Centellas says this year shows them just how far they’ve come in all of those trials and tribulations.
“We’re kicking of this new big ballroom tonight, and so we’re excited about it, our guests are excited to come up and check out the space, you can see the stadium right behind us you can see the golden dome in front of us, the view from up here are beautiful, and for La Casa, our little Latino community center to be hosting an event up here is pretty cool,” said Sam Centellas, Executive Director of La Casa de Amistad.
