Non-profit donates backpacks for 5 La Porte elementary schools

LA PORTE, Ind. -- The end of July usually means that summer vacation is almost at an end for area students and the start of school is just around the corner.

And on Wednesday, students in the La Porte school  district will be able to get a backpack filled with school supplies.

A national group called The Kids In Need Foundation has donated backpacks for students at five elementary schools in the La Porte district.

The backpack donation will begin Wednesday at Lincoln Elementary. The other schools include Riley, Handley, Hailmann and Kingsford Heights.

The backpacks will be placed at the students' desks and be ready for them on the first day of school.

La Porte goes back to school Aug. 14.
