FULTON COUNTY, Ind. -- The Indiana Department of Natural Resources reports an investigation is ongoing after a man died in a hunting incident Saturday night in Fulton County.

The DNR states emergency personnel responded just before 10:30 p.m. to a reported hunting accident near C.R. 500 West just south of S.R. 110.

Authorities' initial investigation determined individuals, including 31-year-old Andrew Boots of North Judson, were hunting raccoons when one hunter attempted to shoot one climbing up a tree.

The report states the round ricocheted off the tree before striking Boots in the abdomen.

Boots was taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries.

Boots' family has set up a GoFundMe fundraiser for funeral expenses and to support his wife and children.
