North Judson Town Marshal passes away

The Town of North Judson is mourning the death of Town Marshal Doug Vessely, 59.

The town clerk says Vessely worked Monday and Tuesday, took Wednesday off, then fell ill on Thursday. He died Friday morning.

Visitation is being held at Braman & Bailey Funeral Home in North Judson from 3 - 9 p.m. Monday.

Services will be held at Sorrowful Mother Catholic Church, Tuesday, April 19, at 11 a.m.

He will be laid to rest in St. Jacobs Cemetery.

The Town Hall will be closed Tuesday so employees can attend the services.

According to his obituary, Vessely was a chairman of the Starke County Democrat party, secretary and treasurer of the Kankakee Valley FOP Post 129, a member of the Starke County CPT, Starke County Council and North Judson Fire Department. He was the Wayne Township Trustee and North Judson Town Marshal.

He also owned Doug's Restaurant in North Judson and the Avenue Bar in La Porte.
