Notre Dame basketball recruit blinded in left eye

Notre Dame, IN – The career of a highly rated Notre Dame basketball recruit is in doubt.

Eric Katenda was permanently blinded in his left eye during a pick-up game July 8th.

Notre Dame Head Basketball Coach Mike Brey said it was the perfect storm, “he came down with a rebound and the guy kind of came up and was going for the ball and got him on an angle,” Brey said.

Katenda’s optical nerve was severed in the accident.

Despite the grim news Coach Brey said Katenda’s spirits have remained high.
