NOW: Notre Dame Football’s defense looking to top last season’s production

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- After finishing with the 5th ranked defense in the country last year, veterans on the defensive side of the ball have a new challenge having to face the versatility of their new offense during fall camp.

In the final practice available to the media, ABC57 was able to hear from Pre-Season All-American Junior Defensive Back Benjamin Morrison and Sophomore Defensive Back Christian Gray.

"I get all types of receivers, like Kris Mitchell, a speed burner. I got Beaux, who's also speed burner. You got. JT, who can go as well? So, I mean, just having those three different bodies and then even faze on. JG, guys like that. I mean, it's, it's, it's a blessing to DB, because you want that. You don't want to just go against the same guy every single day," stated Morrison.

Morrison snagged three interceptions in 2023 and trailing him with one interception is Sophomore DB Christian Gray. Both praising new Irish receivers Kris Mitchell and Beaux Collins.

"Going against mostly Beaux Colins, he's a strong guy, so going against him every time, and especially how he can move, it's like, wow. I never, like, seen this type of ride receiver ever. Like, this is insane. And so, and just really going against like Kris Mitchell and like and Faison, they all just fast guys that could move," stated Gray.

Morrison had surgery on his right shoulder this past spring and is expected to be 100 percent for the season opener against Texas A&M on Aug. 31.
