Notre Dame restores several statues around campus

NOTRE DAME, Ind. --- Notre Dame removed the Sacred Heart of Jesus statue so it could be cleaned, patched and recoated.

It was returned to its location Friday.

The project manager said it was not an easy process.

"For this particular process on a cold day like this, it takes a lot of care. We gotta go real slow.  Make sure all the straps are tied down correctly because we don't want any mishaps. If you dropped a piece of cast iron like this from several feet up onto a hard surface, it would probably crack into multiple pieces," Project Manager Emmett Lodge said.

The temperatures fell as low as -7 degrees on Friday.
