As the Irish prepare for their first game of the season against Florida State, many are looking to see how Jack Coan will lead the team in his debut as quarterback.
Coan, a grad transfer from Wisconsin, missed all of 2020 with an injury but racked up more than 2,700 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2019.
It’s his performance in 2019 that makes Coach Brian Kelly confident Coan can match the accuracy of those before him.
"I mean, he’s been really good,” Kelly said. “He’s the same guy every day, like you don’t go to practice and go 'Who’s that guy. I think that’s the mark of a very good quarterback.”
After earning the spot in a quarterback competition that started in the spring, Coan is optimistic and excited for the opportunity to lead the pack.
“It feels amazing. I mean, it’s just a dream come true. I mean, never in a million years did I think I'd end up here after going to Wisconsin,” Coan said. “I'm just so unbelievably thankful for this opportunity and it's not something I'm going to take lightly."
