Notre Dame student crashes truck into building

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - A Notre Dame student crashed his pick-up truck into the old American Check Cashers building on Eddy Street Saturday night.

South Bend Police officers told ABC 57 News that the crash happened around 10:30 p.m.

The driver has been identified as Adam Lucas. Officers say Lucas took off from the scene of the crash and wasn't there when they arrived.

Officers were able to catch up with Lucas. He was questioned and taken to the hospital for the treatment of minor injuries.

A blood alcohol test will also be administered at the hospital to see if Lucas was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

A portion of the building collapsed as a result of the crash; no one was injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
