NRC Palisades holds Restart Panel in Benton Harbor

NOW: NRC Palisades holds Restart Panel in Benton Harbor

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- The NRC Palisades held a Restart Panel today, Aug. 1, in Benton Harbor.

The meeting provided new information that if the licensing goes according to plan and receives the approval of the granted, the decommissioned Power Plant will start its plans for restarting by late 2025.

"The first meeting, we introduced the panel, and we listen to people. This meeting after we heard the questions, we decided it would be a good idea to ask Holtec to report on their process directly to members of the community," stated Senior Public Affairs Officer for the NRC Vicktoria Mitlyng. "And we also understand that there's certain areas that are very important to people and decommissioning Trust Fund and spent fuel storage. So, we have experts in those areas we have brought with us to answer those questions.

Mitlyng continues, "So tonight's meeting is one of the series of meetings that the NRC is holding in the local community to keep people informed about her review of whole tax requests to bring Palisades back into operation. Tonight's meeting is the second of the meetings that we're holding. The first one was on April 17. Tonight's meeting involves having Holtec the company report on their activities are on the way in order to bring the plant back to operation. So basically, what they're doing different, equipment issues that they're handling, how they're moving forward."
