Number of Americans using food stamps on the rise

The number of people across the country and right here in Michiana who rely on food stamps has grow.

According to new government numbers, more Americans were using food stamps this past August compared to a year ago.

About 15 percent of U.S. uses food stamps. In Indiana, just under 14 percent of the population relies on food assistance. That's up nearly 5 percent.

In Michigan 19 and a half percent of residents are on food stamps. That’s  up nearly 3 percent from last year.
