ELKHART, Ind. --Heart City Nutrition is just one of eight nutrition clubs to compete in the Michiana Shake Off on Friday. It’s a way to show customer appreciation while making the community a little healthier.
“It’s just all about seeing how many people we can get in and what a difference we can make with everyone in the community,” said Gina Kramer, one of the owners at Heart City Nutrition.
Despite the friendly competition with the other clubs, the owners, Ed and Gina Kramer say for them Friday is more about changing people’s lives.
“It’s just about getting our community healthy again. Letting them know that we’re here and just making that impact on the community,” said Ed. “The obesity level is at an all-time high. So we’re just trying to get people aware of what’s out there.”
The Elkhart location is competing with clubs in South Bend, Mishawaka, North Liberty, Niles, New Carlisle and Goshen. All of those locations offer healthy shakes for a discounted price throughout Friday.
The location selling the most shakes wins, and in those shakes comes a lot of nutrition.
“It’s 21 vitamins and minerals and 150 calories,” said Ed. “You would have to eat about 1500 calories worth of high nutritional food to get the nutritional value in that smoothie.”
Heart City Nutrition has over 100 flavors of smoothies. It will stay open until 8 p.m. Friday.
