Officers investigating shots fired report near Franklin Street Tuesday

ELKHART, Ind. – The Elkhart Police Department is investigating reports of shots fired near Franklin Street on Tuesday.

At 6:33 p.m., officers arrived to a gas station in the 1400 block of W. Franklin Street for the sound of gunshots.

The initial investigation learned that a black male began firing at a parked gray Malibu and in the direction of a black male outside the Malibu, reports said.

Neither male was at the scene when officers arrived.

Officers on scene found a gray Chevrolet Malibu with several apparent bullet holes parked at gas pumps facing northwest. No one was in the vehicle.

Officers also found damage to Riverside Village across the street. A bullet hole was found in the right, front window facing Franklin Street.

No injuries were reported and no signs of injury were found at the scene.

No other property damage was reported.

This is an ongoing investigation.
