Officers obtain search warrant, arrest suspect in Dowagiac

DOWAGIAC, Mich. – Officers from the Dowagiac Police Department obtained a search warrant on Monday after a man refused to cooperate with police. He was arrested for aggravated assault.

On Monday, a female victim contacted Dowagiac Police and said she was assaulted by a family member.

The victim advised that the suspect hit her in the face by swinging a chainsaw blade at her and struck her with a small bat.

The victim suffered minor injuries and treated them on her own. She did not require any additional medical treatment.

The officers then went to the suspect’s apartment on Jay Street to locate him.

The suspect refused to cooperate with officers, saying “come back with a search warrant.”

Officers remained outside the residence while an arrest warrant was issued with the assistance of the Cass County Warrant Service Team.

The warrant service team was then utilized, prompting the suspect and another occupant to come out of the apartment.

They were taken into custody without incident.

The 53-year-old suspect was arrested for felonious/aggravated assault and is being held at the Cass County Jail.

The other male suspect was arrested on an outstanding warrant and was also booked into the Cass County Jail.

All charges are pending authorization from the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office.

The name of the suspect will be withheld pending his arraignment.
