Olive township trustee indicted on theft charges

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – A grand jury has indicted Olive Township Trustee John Michalski on theft and official misconduct charges for allegedly using township funds for personal use.

The indictment was handed up on January 24 and Michalski appeared in court on January 29th.

According to court records, a State Board of Accounts examination report prompted a criminal investigation into the Olive Township Trustee’s Office in 2012.

The results of the criminal investigation were presented to a grand jury and Michalski was indicted on two counts of theft and one count of official misconduct.

Court records say Michalski used township funds for his own use between December 30, 2009 and November 14, 2011.

The indictment alleges Michalski used the township’s money at casinos.
