One arrested on drug, firearm charges in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - One person was arrested on various drug and firearm charges in connection with an ongoing investigation by the South Bend Police Department’s Strategic Focus Unit.

Verrhontez Williams, 38, was preliminarily charged with the following:

  • Resisting law enforcement
  • Dealing/possessing meth
  • Dealing/possessing cocaine
  • Criminal recklessness
  • Possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon

Wednesday morning, officers tried to stop a vehicle in connection with the investigation but were led on a chase, according to reports.

After the chase, Williams was arrested, police said.

During the investigation, officers found more than 20 pounds of suspected drugs, five guns and $20,000.
