One dead after a shooting in Starke County

STARKE COUNTY, Ind. – The Starke County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call Thursday afternoon about shots fired off of County Road 550 East.

After a 30-minute search with the Knox City K9 Unit, a suspect and suspect vehicle were located, and a pursuit ensued.

The arrest of the male subject came after a name and description of the suspect and the vehicle was given to police by a witness.

According to that witness, the victim was shot in a residence in the 2000 block of County Road 550 East with the suspect fleeing the scene.

Officers apprehended the suspect in the area of County Road 450 West and County Road 150 South without incident.

The North Judson Police, Indiana State Police Crime Scene Techs, Starke County EMS and Starke County Coroner also assisted with the arrest.

Police assure the public that there is no immediate danger as there was only one suspect who is currently in custody.

The victim died after the incident.

Police will release the names of the victim and the suspect at a later time.
