One man dead after shooting in Dowagiac
DOWAGIAC, Mich. – A 42-year-old man is dead after a shooting in Dowagiac early Sunday morning, according to Dowagiac Police.
The 24-year-old suspect was arrested on a charge of open murder. His name is being withheld pending his arraignment.
Police were dispatched to the Beeson Street Bar for a large fight at 2:29 a.m. Sunday. While on route, they were notified someone was shot.
When police arrived to the Dowagiac bar, the suspect took off running. After a short foot pursuit, the suspect was arrested.
Upon police investigation, the altercation that led to the call, spilled into the parking lot of the bar.
The suspect allegedly retrieved an AK-47 style rifle from his vehicle, loaded it, and fired 12-15 shots.
According to DPD, the suspect did not hit his intended target.
The 42-year-old Dowagiac resident that did get shot was killed instantly from the gunshot.
According to police, the suspect fired 12-15 shots across the parking lot.

The shooting happened in this parking lot behind Beeson St. Bar.
The suspect, 24, is in custody. He fired several shots in this area.
