One dead following crash on C.R. 17
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – One person has died following a head-on crash on C.R. 17 in Osolo Township on Saturday afternoon, the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office reported.
At 1:02 p.m., a Buick was traveling north on the inside lane of C.R. 17 when it slowed to turn west onto Farmwood Drive.
The Buick began to drift over the double yellow before reaching Farmwood Drive, according to reports.
At the same time, a Lexus was traveling south on the outside lane of C.R. 17 at about 117 mph, reports said.
The two vehicles collided head-on, reports said.
Debris from the crash hit a Mercedes that was traveling north on C.R. 17, causing minor damage to the front of the vehicle.
The driver of the Buick was extracted by emergency responders and taken to the hospital for leg injuries.
The driver of the Lexus, identified as 19-year-old Brennon Norman, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time and was thrown from the vehicle, reports said.
Norman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Mercedes was not injured.
An investigation is ongoing.
