One dead in Edwardsburg crash

EDWARDSBURG, Mich. – One person has died following a crash on M-62 on Friday morning, the Ontwa Township Edwardsburg Police Department reported.

At 7 a.m., officers responded to a personal injury crash on M-62 north of U.S. 12.

Officers discovered a vehicle driven by a Plymouth man had crossed the center lane and ran head-on into a southbound vehicle, according to reports.

The driver of the southbound vehicle, identified as 23-year-old Nashay Charleston of Elkhart, was entrapped in her vehicle at the scene and had to be extricated by the Edwardsburg Fire Department.

Charleston succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The Plymouth driver was taken to a local hospital.

Seatbelts were worn at the time of the crash.

This crash remains under investigation.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors.
