One man dead following two-car crash in Elkhart County

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- One man has died following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of County Road 31 and County Road 42, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the report late Monday night.

The driver of a 2006 Dodge Charger was traveling east on County Road 42 and failed to halt at a stop sign, colliding with the driver’s side door of a Chrysler 300 which was traveling northbound on County Road 31, deputies said.

45-year-old Goshen resident, Richard Smith, has been identified as the driver of the Chrysler 300, and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the Charger was transported to Parkview Hospital by emergency personnel for serious leg injuries.

The crash is still under investigation.
