The incident occurred near the 800 block of Harrison St.

The Elkhart Police Department officers and emergency personnel responded to the call of shots fired and tried to revive the victim upon arrival. However, he was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene. 

The investigation into this shooting is ongoing. Officials are asking anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact the Elkhart County Homicide Unit at 574-295-2825. 

UPDATE: Police identified the victim as 40-year-old Ricardo Navarro. An autopsy confirmed his manner of death was a homicide.
