One officer injured after a suspect crashed into a patrol vehicle during a police chase

STURGIS, Mich. -- Officials reported that a traffic stop made on Sunday near West Street and North Centerville Road turned into a police chase that involved the suspect crashing into a patrol car, injuring an officer.

The Sturgis Department of Public Safety’s Police Division attempted to make a traffic stop at 7:10 p.m. on Sunday for a vehicle that was believed to be connected with a missing juvenile, officials say.

Officials say that after one woman exited the stopped vehicle, the suspect began driving away in an attempt to flee from the officers.

This police chase resulted in the suspect crashing into a Sturgis Public Safety Patrol car that caused minor injuries to the officer in the vehicle, officials say.

After the crash, officials say the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot for a short period of time before being caught and arrested by officers.

The suspect was charged with fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing law enforcement along with four outstanding warrants, officials say.
