BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- One person is dead following an early morning pedestrian crash in Berrien County.

First responders were dispatched at 2:05 a.m. on October 7, westbound on Interstate 94 near the Watervliet exit 41. According to the Berrien County Sheriff's Office, officers found the victim laying on the side of the road, and a vehicle stopped. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle allegedly told officers the victim was wearing all black and standing in the westbound lanes; they also said the collision was unavoidable. 

The driver and two other people in the vehicle were uninjured.

Officials say the initial investigation does not show speed or alcohol as factors in the crash.
