One person is dead after fiery crash in Buchanan

BUCHANAN, Mich. -- One person is dead after a vehicle struck a tree in Buchanan Township.

Officers of the Berrien County Sheriff's Department responded to an injury report on Glendora Road near Coveney Road at approximately 7 o'clock this morning.

According to officials the vehicle had hit a tree and was engulfed in flames when they arrived on scene.

Once Buchanan Township Fire personnel put out the fire a single victim was found dead inside the vehicle.

The victim was transported to Kalamazoo for an autopsy to be conducted to confirm the victim’s identity.

According to officials the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Glendora Road when it went off the road way and struck the tree.

Officials say this is an ongoing investigation and the victim's identity will continue to be withheld pending identification and notification of next of kin.

Speed or intoxicants are not known to be factors at this time.
