One person sent to the hospital after a rollover crash

BERIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to a single-vehicle crash at 4:53 p.m. on Monday on West US 12 that left the driver with serious injuries.

Witnesses told police that the vehicle was traveling west on US 12, near Grand Avenue, at a high rate of speed before the driver lost control.

Police say the vehicle went off the road before striking a fire hydrant, a residence, a large rock, several trees, and a parked vehicle before overturning and coming to rest upside down.

The driver was extracted out of the vehicle by the New Buffalo Township Fire Department before being transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for serious injuries, police say.

The two passengers were able to exit the vehicle on their own.

Police say that alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash.

The crash is still under investigation by the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.
