One person seriously injured in Berrien County crash
BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. – One person was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash on Saturday, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office reported.
At 8:07 p.m., first responders were called to a crash on S. 11th Street near Bertrand Road in Niles Township.
According to the investigation, a 60-year-old Niles woman had been driving south on S. 11th Street when her vehicle left the road to the right, went airborne, hit a utility pole, and rolled before coming to a stop on its roof.
The woman was trapped in the vehicle. She was freed from the vehicle and taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Damage to the utility pole resulted in downed power lines in the road and power outages in the immediate area.
Excessive speed is suspected as a factor in the crash.
