UPDATE: 38-year-old California man formally charged in officer-involved shooting in South Bend
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- UPDATE: The St. Joseph County Police Department has reports formal charges have been filed against 38-year-old Antoine M. Minor, of Pasadena, Calif, regarding the South Bend officer-involved shooting on Washington and Wellington Streets.
Authorities say Minor remains hospitalized in stable condition for a gunshot wound.
Police say the origin of the gunshot has not been determined and is part of the ongoing investigation.
A 23-year-old woman was also discovered on scene suffering from injuries unrelated to the gunfire.
Police say she remains hospitalized in stable condition as well. The cause of her injuries has not yet been determined and is also part of the ongoing investigation.
Minor is charged with Possession of Narcotics, a Level 3 Felony, Possession of Marijuana, a class B Misdemeanor, and Dealing in Marijuana, a class A Misdemeanor.
SBPD and its officers are cooperating with the investigation and SJCPD and Mishawaka police investigators continue to review body camera video, witness statements, and other evidence.
ORIGINAL STORY: Around 4:20 a.m. Sunday, South Bend Police responded to reports of a disturbance and crowd in the area of Washington and Wellington Streets.
As the police were on the scene, an officer reported shots fired and discharged his department-issued firearm in return.
One male is being treated for an apparent gunshot wound at the hospital.
A female suffered injuries and is being treated at the hospital, but her wounds appear unrelated to gunfire.
No officers were injured.
The St. Joseph County Police Department is leading the investigation.
The South Bend Police Department is also investigating if proper policy, procedure, and training were followed.
The officer involved is on administrative leave as the investigation continues.
