One teenager killed in an off-road vehicle accident

LaPorte County, Ind. -- The Indiana Department of Natural Resources reported that officers responded to an off-road vehicle accident in LaPorte County on Sunday night that killed a 14-year-old and injured four more juveniles.

Officials say that officers responded to the scene of the accident, 9400 block of North 500 East, at approximately 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Initial investigation records show that the operator of the side-by-side off-road vehicle lost control when attempting to turn at a high rate of speed, resulting in a roll over crash, officials say.

A 14-year-old injured in the crash was later pronounced deceased at Northwest Health. A 15-year-old was airlifted to a Chicago trauma center for serious injuries sustained in the crash.

Three juveniles were treated at the scene of the accident for minor injuries.

The investigation into this accident is still ongoing.
