Opening Day Game for South Bend Cubs postponed due to unplayable infield conditions

ABC 57

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Tonight's Opening Day Game between the South Bend Cubs and Quad Cities River Bandits has been postponed due to unplayable infield conditions.

Team officials say the Four Winds Field grounds crew has been working actively to ensure that the infield is appropriate for proper player safety. And after coaching staff, umpires, and Major League Baseball officials met, it was decided best to not play the game for proper player accommodations.

Cubs fans are still invited to attend a special Open House tonight that will feature the first opportunity to experience the newly renovated field.

Fans will have the opportunity to meet and watch the new team as select players will play a game in the outfield. Additionally, several of the pitchers will sign autographs in front of the first base dugout. Fans may enter the field through Section 104 for autographs.

The South Bend Cubs Opening Night fireworks show will go on as scheduled. Fireworks will begin at approximately 8:15 pm

The South Bend Cubs and River Bandits are scheduled to play the April 4th game as planned. Saturday's game remains as a standard, 9-inning ballgame, weather permitting.

Gates will open at 2:30 pm and first pitch is scheduled for 4:05 pm.

Fans with tickets from tonight's game may exchange them for any other game in the 2026 season. Tickets do not need to be exchanged right away.
