Oscar voters get an extra day to cast ballots

LOS ANGELES — Oscar voters will have a little extra time to submit their picks for the Academy Awards.

Voters will now have until Friday, Jan. 4 to get them. That is a day longer than originally planned.

This is the first year the Academy has used online voting for the awards. And the deadline extension is to make the voting transition a little easier.

Voters can still use paper ballots if they choose.

The nominees are set to be announced the second week in January.

The Oscars will air Feb. 24 on ABC.
