Osceola man struck by train in Elkhart

ELKHART, Ind. -- A 33-year-old man was struck by a train at the Norfolk Southern railyard early Wednesday morning, according to Elkhart Police.

Just before 4:30 a.m., a conductor who was operating the train remotely said he saw a person walk in front of the train and yelled at the person to warn them.

The train struck the person while traveling approximately 10-15 mph, the conductor told police.

The conductor put the train in emergency mode so it would stop.

The victim was conscious and alert and was transported to the hospital.
