Outpost Bikes to close Mishawaka retail store

MISHAWAKA, Ind.—Outpost Bikes, formerly known as Outpost Sports, will permanently close the retail portion of its business in Mishawaka.

In a letter to customers on Monday, Outpost Bikes owners JV and Sue Peacock thanked the community for its support of the business since its inception in 1974.

“Many factors led to this decision but among the biggest factor has been the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,” the owners said in a post to the bike shop's Facebook page.

The owners said the business inventory was negatively impacted by the supply chain issues that the bike industry faced as a result of the pandemic.

Closing sales will begin at the store, located at 3602 Grape Road, on September 29 and discounts of up to 60% off will be available.

The service shop will remain open this fall and winter for bike, ski and snowboard services.

Lake stores in New Buffalo and South Haven will operate as usual next season.

In April, the business pivoted its focus to selling bikes after spending years selling recreational sporting equipment for a variety of activities.
