Owner closing Williams Lumber after 130 years in business

NILES, Mich. -- A business that has been owned and operated by the same family for six generations is closing its doors. After 130 years, Williams Lumber is shutting down.

Owner Bruce Williams said the store has been struggling for about eight years.

He says before the recession, he was selling four times as much product.

He said everything has to go.

"We have to sell everything including the real estate, the building,” said Williams.

Customers are just as sad to see the business close.

"It's just sad when you have a hometown business close either due to competition or economic conditions,” said Larry Steelman, a customer for 50 years.

Williams wants to thank the people of Niles for their customer loyalty for so many years.
