Passenger allegedly takes the wheel, injures one in car crash

CASS COUNTY, Mich. – Cass County deputies were called out to a single-vehicle personal injury car crash on O’Keefe Road, north of Dutch Settlement Road on Saturday around 2:15 p.m.

When officers arrived, they learned that the 19-year-old Dowagiac driver was traveling north on O’Keefe Road, the report said.

The passenger, a 17-year-old from Bronson, Mich. allegedly grabbed the wheel of the vehicle, causing the vehicle to run off the road and crashed into a tree, deputies said.

The passenger sustained minor injuries and was transported to the local hospital, according to the report.

Seat belts were worn, and alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this crash, the report said.
