Pedestrian dies after vehicle crash on Cassopolis Street
ELKHART, Ind. – A pedestrian has died following a vehicle crash on Cassopolis Street Thursday night, the Elkhart Police Department reported.
At 9:24 p.m., officers were called to the intersection of Cassopolis Street and David Drive for a report of a vehicle and pedestrian crash with injuries.
The initial investigation found that the pedestrian was walking in the road when a silver Jeep traveling south on Cassopolis struck them, reports said.
The 65-year-old driver of the Jeep stayed on scene and cooperated with officers.
The pedestrian, later identified as 74-year-old Loren Hoelscher of Williams, Iowa, was taken to the hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead later that evening.
This is an ongoing investigation.
At this time, police do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors.
