Pedestrian struck and killed on Cassopolis Street in Elkhart

According to our partners at The Elkhart Truth, a pedestrian was struck and killed early Friday night while crossing Cassopolis Street in Elkhart, Elkhart police said.

Officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Cassopolis Street at 7:02 p.m.

46-year-old Dean Tucknott was crossing the street when he was struck by an SUV that was heading south.

Police say Tucknott was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of his injuries.

The accident happened near the restaurant ‘Between The Buns’ and traffic was being re-routed, according to a reporter at the scene.

Police do not believe alcohol or narcotics to be factors in this crash and the investigation is ongoing.

Police asked for drivers to avoid the area for several hours to investigate.
